Persist in normalcy!

Richardson, Geithner, Blagojevich, Emanuel, Holder, etc…Scandals, galore.  And that’s just in Obama’s transition.  Nevermind the scandals that arose during his election.  That’s more scandals in one transition than most presidents will have in one term.  When will people wake up and realize that it’s not just being in the wrong place at the wrong time but a pattern of behavior?  I sense another pattern:  A scandal erupts among Obama’s democrat colleagues (many newly appointed to his transition team).  Media dismisses it as another “unfortunate distraction” for Obama.  Obama, himself, judiciously and magnanimously, with heartwarming benevolence, clears them.  Media blindly accepts.  Next, please.

Um, what about THAT doesn’t scare the pants of any sane individual, right or left?  What I’m saying is that at least with Bush, we knew that, whatever he did, the media had a scrutinizing eye upon it.  Of course, the vast majority of this scrutiny was extraordinarily unfair, but there was at least some holding into account there.  I see none of this with Obama.  2008 is now known by consensus as the year objective media died, and what we are now witnessing is its hand in what is truly going to be an “imperialistic” presidency.  The power that Obama has due to this abject complacency by most people will be the death knell of America the great.  Feel free to weep for the country that was.  We are soon going to be a copy of the secular-progressive, socialistic, economically and culturally stagnant western European nations that espresso-sipping liberals (who live in America) laud.

Who in their right mind would truly wish something like that upon our nation?  (Anyone who believes more in ideals than in realities, for one, but I digress…)

Well, read this fantastic article by Andrew Klavan, and know that “right minds” are not in the equation:

What the right is experiencing at the moment is a phenomenon called “cultural para-stimuli.”  You can read all about it in Tom Wolfe’s wonderful novel I Am Charlotte Simmons. It’s sort of like peer pressure on steroids.  It was discovered by Nobel Laureate Victor Ransome Starling, who found that when he surrounded normal cats with cats whose behavior had been bizarrely altered by brain surgery, the normal cats began acting like the crazy cats all around them.

That’s us–surrounded by the mainstream media.  So steeped are we now in their lies about our representatives, their ridicule of our commentators, their demonizing dismissal of the causes we know are just, that we’ve begun to adopt their attitudes toward ourselves! And perhaps chief among the lies they’ve sold us is the lie that they’ve won, that the media are theirs for good and all, and that Americans are going to be hoodwinked and brainwashed by their constant barrage of misinformation forever.

Well, only if we let them.

Let’s be the normal cats.  But let’s persist in our normalcy.  We cannot give up or give in.

If you are like me, you might be similarly engaged in morose thinking about the future of our nation.  The Bill Mahers and Al Frankens have seemingly won.  I must apologize to you for my pessimism earlier in this post.  I believe that we can and will come through this, but it might take years to do it.  I genuinely persist in my beliefs in the silent majority of good, sane American individuals who conduct their lives by the dictates of common sense.  Even some of those who voted for the “hope” and “change” promised by Obama will have the scales fall away from their eyes once they realize that change for the sake of change can be a bad thing.  (Of course, by then it will be too late, as is the premise in this editorial from the UK Spectator by James Delingpole about his book, titled, I have seen your future, America, and it doesn’t work.  Read it.)

So, obviously, I vacillate between pessimism and optimism regarding the future of the nation I love.  But there is one thing that you can count on:  I will persist in being a normal cat.

For some more inspiration, I’ll leave you with more from Klavan:

Look, the American media are in a bad way, a disastrous way.  Movies, TV, literature–instead of illuminating vehicles for art and entertainment, they’ve become like the Matrix, replacing reality with a plausible leftist imitation.  Journalists especially have so shamed themselves in their coverage of the last election–hounding Sarah Palin’s daughter and Joe the Plumber while all but ignoring Barack Obama’s ties to Illinois corruption, and his long and deep association with the racist anti-American Jeremiah Wright–that it’s going to take them years to recover.  When people shame themselves that badly, they don’t admit it in a hurry.  They savage their critics instead and continue their own shameful practices as a kind of defiant denial–anything rather than look in the mirror and confront what they’ve turned themselves into.

So yeah, we’re on our own for now.  But we’re not unarmed and we’re in no way defeated.  We have great politicians like Sarah Palin–who could well be president in not eight years but four–honest newsmen like Bret Baer and genius commentators like Rush–and Ann Coulter, who’s only about ten times smarter, funnier and more talented as a satirist than Jon Stewart or Bill Maher will ever be.  The left can’t out-argue these mind-warriors so they try to ridicule, disdain and isolate them, to make us feel ashamed that we admire and respect them.  And they tell us they’re finished, washed-up.  Why, just look, it must be true:  it’s right there in the newspapers and on TV.

They’re lying.  The left has to lie for the simple reason that they’re wrong and we’re right, their policies don’t work and ours do.  Look at the cities that liberal politicians and programs have devoured like locusts.  Look at the liberal states that can’t rein in their spending even as they go broke.  Look at how environmentalists have made us energy-slaves to monsters overseas.  And look at how leftist, anti-patriotic and anti-religious policies in Europe have turned a once-great culture into a corpse that is being consumed by Islamo-fascist bacteria as we watch.

Hey, listen, our soldiers have to get shot at in the cause of liberty.  All we in the media have to do is keep telling people the truth.  Lies and insults are all the left has got to sling against us.  They only win if we start to believe them.

  1. And what is really pathetic about the media is that they admitted that they had a bias during the campaign and yet still persist. The recent glowing reports about the upcoming Inauguration and how the $150 million price tag is necessary and okay are in stark contrast to the media’s complaints about President Bush’s $42 million Inauguration. I can’t even stand to watch most of it anymore – thank God for some balance on Fox News and for the blogs.
